Look out, Spotify. There might soon be a brand new free music streaming service, courtesy of Amazon.

In accordance with Billboard, ecommerce big Amazon is at present in talks with major music labels to offer a free, ad-supported music streaming service. The service would supply a restricted catalog of tunes and can be made obtainable via Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa, on the company’s Echo units.

Sources say Amazon might unveil the free music streaming service earlier than the top of April. Spotify is at present the one music streaming platform that markets a free-tier of service (aside from web radio providers like Pandora or iHeartRadio).

Amazon at present supplies two music streaming choices: Prime Music by way of its $119-per-year Prime membership at no further value and the $9.99-per-month Amazon Music Unlimited, which offers a bigger library of music and doesn’t require a Prime subscription. Whereas Amazon doesn’t disclose the number of subscribers to its music providers, reports say that the corporate has more than 20 million subscribers throughout all of its music-listening options.

The music streaming service market, very similar to its video equivalent, is at present booming. Common Music Group, Warner, and Sony — the three largest music labels — reportedly made a mixed $6.93 billion in 2018 from music streaming providers alone.

Spotify, the main music streaming firm worldwide, boasts almost 100 million paying clients with one other 115 million on the service’s free tier. Its closest competitor, Apple Music, has close to 60 million paid and trial-based subscribers. YouTube also accounts for a staggering amount of music streaming on-line with its ad-supported, on-demand video content material.
